The difference between white emery and green emery

White corundum and Green silicon carbideare more common artificial abrasives in industry, although many people can indeed distinguish the two, but the use and nature of the two may be really a little confused, let’s give a general introduction:

White corundum:

Basic composition: α-Al2O3;

Color: White;

Bulk density: 1.53~1.99g/cm3;

Refractory: ≥1850°C;

Crystal shape: trigonal crystal system;

Mohs hardness: about 9;

Green silicon carbide:

Basic composition: SIC;

Color: Green;

Bulk density: 1.45~1.56g/cm3;

Refractory: 2700°C (sublimation);

Crystal shape: hexagon;

Mohs hardness: about 9.2;

White corundum is weaker than green silicon carbide in hardness, but its grinding performance and chemical properties are still very good, so it is often used for consolidation or coating abrasives, or as a sandblasting abrasive, can also be used for grinding and polishing in the electronics industry, and can also be used to make refractory materials. In addition, white corundum can also be used as an insulator, touch media and other fields that people do not come into contact with.

Although green silicon carbide is harder than white corundum, it is also brittle, but its performance is still very good. Like white corundum, green silicon carbide can also be used to make various consolidation or coating abrasives, can be used as polishing abrasives for non-metallic materials such as glass and ceramics, and can also be used in the semiconductor field and far-infrared source substrates.
